Dr. Joann Stock: Biography
Dr. Joann Stock grew up in Massachusetts and studied geophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from MIT in 1981. She was employed as a geophysicist by the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, from 1982-1984. She returned to graduate school at MIT and received her Ph.D. in structural geology and tectonics in 1988. Her Ph.D. research project was a field geological study of the bounding faults in part of the Gulf of California extensional province, within what is now one of the MARGINS focus sites. Joann was a faculty member at Harvard University from 1988 to 1992. She joined the faculty at the California Institute of Technology in 1992. She is also an adjunct professor at CICESE in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. She is married and has two children.
